Harworth Police have today been working with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs team in relation to illegal diesel fuel use.
The team have visited the area as a result of several recent fuel thefts that have been reported.
Primarily looking at the illegal use of red diesel, the team have a power of access to test vehicles on private property.
The team are also able to check and identify some road diesel which has been stolen by way of “liquid markers” placed within the fuel by hauliers in order to identify stolen road fuel.
Sgt Crofts at Harworth Police station suggested that further operations will be planned in the future, and that where community intelligence identifies a possible user of illegal or stolen fuel, those users may be paid a visit by the nice people from HMRC.
If you have any information about stolen fuel, or the illegal use of red diesel, please contact your local Policing Team.
Alternatively Crimestoppers can be used anonymously on 0800555111. Calls are free, and you do not need to provide personal details.
